PROPER SAFETY LIGHT CURTAIN INSTALLATION
When using safety light curtains on mechanical power presses OSHA and ANSI Federal Regulations require that the press be a part revolution clutch design and that the electrical press control meets all current OSHA and ANSI standards. Installation and positioning of the safety light curtain must also meet OSHA and ANSI regulations, the light curtain must be installed at a specified safety distance from the point of operation. This location is determined by the physical stop time of the machine and by OSHA and ANSI distance formulas. Once the safety light curtain is in position all other access areas to the point of operation must be guarded by other approved devices or means in accordance with OSHA 1910.217 and ANSI B 11.1 (section 2). Below is a typical installation, which required mechanical guards to be used to guard the point of operation not protected by the safety light curtain. Refer to OSHA and ANSI regulations for a detailed explanation on the proper use and installation of safety light curtains.
