BM-2198-AS TIME BASED BRAKE MONITOR

The BM-2198 time based brake monitor and programmable stop time measurement device is designed to meet or exceed control reliability standards as stated in OSHA 1910.217 and ANSI B11.1-1988. In operation, the BM-2198-AS will continuously monitor brake wear to ensure operator safety. As the brake begins to wear, the BM-2197-AS will give the end-user a brake warning indicator which will allow the user to schedule maintenance. In the event this warning is ignored the BM-2198-AS will send a stop signal to the press’s emergency stop circuit.

The BM-2198-AS is an encoder driven microprocessor based brake monitor which converts from a brake monitor to a stop time measurement device with the turn of a key and touch of a button. As a brake monitor it evaluates every press stroke to make sure the actual stopping time is less than the user programmed safe stopping time limit and displays this value in milliseconds. If the actual stopping time exceeds the stopping time limit, the BM-2198-AS will automatically signal the emergency stop circuit thus-preventing the activation of a successive stroke.

As a stop time measurement device, the BM-2198-AS allows the user to comply with OSHA requirements that the press stopping time be measured at 90 past top dead center for calculating the safety distance of the point of operation guards ( Safety Light Curtains ) and operator controls ( Palm run buttons ).

The BM-2198-AS Time Base Brake Monitor is designed to meet or exceed OSHA requirements 1910.217 (b)(14)(c) (5): ANSI B11.1-1988 Control Reliability requirements and CSA Standards. The BM-2198-AS will automatically prevent the activation of a successive stroke if the stopping time deteriorates beyond the brake limit set point. A Brake Monitor is required on any press that has a single stroke mode of operation or uses a two-hand initiation control, safety light curtain or type B gate system.
