(RF) - PRESENCE SENSING DEVICE
WARNING: The Sentry MUST NOT be used on mechanical power punch presses! The Sentry must only be applied to machinery that incorporates a part revolution clutch design. This type of machinery has the ability to be stopped anywhere in the cycle. It is the end users responsibility to adjust and to ensure that the sentry unit is adjusted and functioning properly EVERY-DAY AND OR PER/SHIFT. It is the end-users responsibility to ensure that the operator and mechanics of the machinery are fully trained in the operation and or ajustment requirements of the Sentry system. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
According to statistics, 85% of all industrial accidents are caused by human error. KTI's SN-3000-AS Electronic Sensing Device is designed to help protect personnel from injury due to accidental contact with moving machinery, machinery parts or areas of contact danger (pinch Points). Created to help comply with Federal Safety Standards the SN-3000-AS Present Sensing Device provides guarding where previous attempts were difficult. The system is especially effective for use on multi-slide machinery, molding machines, in die casting, on automatic packaging equipment, heat sealing equipment and in areas of high voltage, temperature or dangerous chemicals.
The KTI Present Sensing Device SN-3000-AS helps protect personnel from such hazards by employing a sensitive capacitive detector that encompass the area of danger. The sensing element can be made to conform to any unusual contours, while compensating for normal motions within the sensing field. Any personnel inadvertently entering the harzardous areas are detected, triggering a signal to stop the machine, sound an alarm or perform some other function.
Constructed of easily obtainable thin-wall conduit, the sensing device or "antenna" of the SN-3000-AS Presence Sensing Device is inexpensive and easily formed into any shape or configuration to suit the appliaction. It can guard large or small areas, one, two or all sides of an area or guard several harardous locations in a given area. Any external power failure, or disconnection of the sensing element will cause the SN-3000-AS Present Sensing Devive to shut down the equipment or machinery.
All control components are contained inside a double locked control caabinet, adjustable only by authorized personnel with keys. While the machine is operating, the SN-3000-AS must be in a running condition or the machine will shut down. From the standpoint of versatility, flexibility and maintenance, the KTI Present Sensing Device helps provide protection for factory personnel at a truly econmical cost. The SN-3000-AS system includes the sensing control unit (SN-3000-AS), 6ft coaxial antenna cable (CB-3010-AS), antenna connection block (CN-3009-AS) and a User/Warning/Installation manual (MN-1216-AS).
FEATURES:
* The SN-3000-AS employs state-of-the-art circuitry which provides reliable and efficient protection * Effective antenna distance up 75 linear feet, allowing the antenna to be configured around any hazardous area. * Uses common, readily available, thin-wall conduit as its sensing element. * Increase productivity by eliminating barrier guards, which hamper operation functions. * A rugged, oil tight, heavy duty enclosure is designed to operate in the harsh industrial environment. * In the unlikely event of a system failure, the self-checking, redundant circuitry insures the unit will fail in a safe manner. |
THEORY OF OPERATION:
The operating principle of the model SN-3000-AS is based upon the capacitance existing between all bodies and earth ground. The magnitude of capacitance is directly proportional to the area of the body and its distance between another body of ground, thus by increasing the area of the body, it increases the capacitance. Since the capacitance can be measured and controlled very accurately through modern electronic techniques, the basis for a control system capable of sensing variations around a hazardous area is established.
THE ANTENNA:
The antenna which can consist of 3/4" thin wall conduit (EMT) or any conductive material such as copper or galvanized pipe is configured around the hazardous area to be protected. By incorporating the antenna into a stable electronic balanced bridge circuit, any additional object entering the protective area bounded by the antenna can be detected by the resulting change in capacitance. The standard model SN-3000-AS is capable of antenna of 75 linear feet and can be increased to 150 linear feet to accommodate for virtually any configuration to provide effective protection to hazardous areas.
