AUTOMIC, NON-CONTACT SHUT-HEIGHT MONITORING SYSTEM
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The autoMic is a quality control monitor which employs the latest in both microprocessor circuitry and high frequency sensor technology. This technology provides the accuracy needed to detect very slight deviations in the die area at bottom dead center, Accurate to .00004 inches at speeds up to 2500 SPM. The eddy current proximity sensor that is mounted in the die area needs no calibration only distance adjustment and the sensors are interchangeable so they can be permanently mounted to the die.
STROKE TO STROKE MEASUREMENT:
The AutoMic can be programmed to monitor in two types of modes. One is the stroke-to-stroke monitoring mode where each stroke deviation measured is then compared to a preset monitoring limit (in microns). If the deviation exceeds the monitoring limit the AutoMic will transmit a stop signal to the press. The deviation from one stroke to the next is programmed into the AutoMic allowing for slight changes in shut-height due to thermal expansion and speed variations. This permits the press to run free of nuisance stops, but will pick up a slug or sliver.
BENCHMARK SAMPLING MODE:
In the second mode of monitoring, the AutoMic takes an average of 20 strokes and automatically sets a benchmark. Each stroke is then compared to the benchmark. If the deviation exceeds the monitoring limit, the AutoMic will transmit a stop signal. This mode is designed to monitor operations where picking up slight changes in shut height is critical such as coining, scoring, embossing and bending. It will accurately monitor for thermal expansion and material thickness changes as well as slugs, silvers and burrs.
DETECTING METHOD:
When a slug intrudes upon material between dies with a spring-loaded stripper plate, the slug is collapsed to 30-50 percent of original thickness (depending on the type of material) thus changing position of the stripper plate. The deviation in stripper plate position is compared with pre-programmed limits. The deviation at bottom dead center of each stroke is compared to the preceding stroke, or to a bench mark value. The lowest point of bottom dead center is picked up. Therefore the measurement is not affected by bounding stripper plate or deflection of the stripper springs. Thus, the AutoMic detects real time BTC shut-height position.
UNIT CONFIGURATION:
The AutoMic consists of a main control unit called the AutoMic base (DP-4066-AS) and it is supplied with (1) high frequency sensor this supports one channel of monitoring. You may add additional monitoring channels to the base unit by adding AutoMic-Stacker units. Each stacker unit (DS-4067-AS) supplies one channel of monitoring, each additional stack has it's own adjustable monitoring limit. A total of seven (7) Stacker-units can be added giving the AutoMic base unit a total of 8 channels of monitoring.
